Explanation of Terms

Readership: Also known as the "reach," the readership is a measurement of the total number of people who actually see a single issue of a magazine. The readership is calculated by multiplying the circulation size by the pass-along rate (Circulation * Pass-Along = Readership). In other words, if a magazine has a circulation size of 10 people and a pass-along rate of 2.0, then the readership is 20 people.

Ad Worth: In this usage, ad worth refers how much the article's space is worth in advertising dollars based on rates specified by the respective magazine. In other words, this figure represents the amount of free advertising the company received in each magazine. In published articles, this figure identifies how much the same amount of space that the article fills would cost to purchase as a full-color advertisement. In upcoming scheduled articles, this figure represents how much the estimated amount of space that the article fills would cost to purchase as a full-color advertisement.

Circulation: Circulation is a measurement of how many copies of a magazine issue are distributed, which is an indication of "qualified readers." Circulation size is determined by an internal or external magazine audit. All circulations represent the numbers reported by the respective magazines.

Pass-Along Rate: This term indicates the average number of people who see a single copy of a magazine. In other words, if a magazine has a circulation size of 10 people and 20 people see the magazine, the pass-along rate is 2.0. Pass-along rates typically fall between 2.0 and 4.0. All pass-along rates represent the numbers reported by the respective magazine, except in regard to UIM Magazine, in which 2.0 is used for a conservative estimate.
